Article Watch: Style.com looks at great moments in fashion blogging history

Some media outlets choose to ignore the blogger revolution, but not Style.com. The pioneer of up-to-the-minute coverage of international fashion shows, they have paid homage to the international fashion blogging sensations in a pictorial piece entitled: WE WILL NOT BE DELETED, great moments in fashion blogging history

It gives interesting insight into some of the hottest stories in fashion blogging, pre September 2009.

Article Watch: Fashion Bloggers, Digital Dictators or Fashion Queens?

There was an interestingly biased commentary piece published in Australia’s premier newspaper The Australian last week where Vogue.com.au’s Online Editor Damien Woolnough called fashion bloggers “Nikon-toting bottom feeders on the fashion food chain”.

Needless to say I was less than impressed and was glad when Fairfax journalist Georgina Robinson wrote a piece for Sydney Morning Herald about French fashion blogger Garance Dore and pointed out some of the discrepancies in Woolnough’s attack.

Obviously not all former print media members are open to fashion bloggers, even if they now ply their trade by running a fashion website whose main source of traffic is through their user-generated content on their popular fashion forums.

Sportsgirl dedicates window displays to Fashion Hayley, Kat George & 4th and Bleeker

Canada’s Holt Renfrew honored the likes of The Sartorialist, BryanBoy, Garance Dore, Sea of Shoes, Jak & Jil and I Want I Got with window displays dedicated to their blogs… and locally Sportsgirl have joined in the fashion blogger celebrations with three blogger styled windows this month.

And the lucky bloggers? Hayley Hughes of Fashion Hayley is featured in the Chapel Street store in South Yarra, VIC, Kat George of Style Lines is featured in the Chadstone store in Chadstone, VIC and lastly Alexandra Spencer of 4th and Bleeker received a window in the Paddington store in Paddington, NSW.

All three were able to create a one-off installation in their Sportsgirl window to bring their blog and inspirations to life.

Congratulations ladies!

Article watch: Meet Fashion’s New Front Row, Marie Claire Australia

Here’s an exciting local ‘article watch‘. We love articles about fashion bloggers and fashion blogging in general, so when we heard Marie Claire Australia’s Mobile Editor, Jade Warne, had written a piece about fashion bloggers for the April 2010 issue we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it. And just as the issue is about to his newsstands tomorrow, we received a copy via email! It features the usual suspects like BryanBoy, Tavi and The Sartorialist, as well as our own Aussie shoe blogger Matt Jordan of Imelda. Pick up your copy of Marie Claire Australia tomorrow – we’ll link to the article as soon it appears on the Marie Claire website!

“Bloggers are here to stay and are all different”
– Teen Vogue

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thanks @TeenVogue! The iBFcon they are talking about is Independent Fashion Blogger’s Evolving Influence fashion blogger conference held over the weekend in New York City (during New York Fashion Week)

Fashion bloggers are here to stay, and we’re all different.

We don’t all take photos of ourselves or other people’s stylish looks, we don’t all report on the latest runway looks or fashion trends. Take the time to learn a little about us and we will do the same for you. We outlined the different types of fashion bloggers in our launch issue of iBlogFashion. If you missed it you can download it here or read some of it here.

Article watch: The Rise of the Style Blogger, and more

Fashion bloggers around the world are focused on one thing at the moment. New York Fashion Week and then London, Milan and Paris. So it comes as no surprise that fashion bloggers are a very hot topic at the moment. We’re guessing that 13-year-old Tavi Gevinson of StyleRookie fame is one of the most photographed (and recognized) bloggers on the circuit at the moment.

Here’s some interesting articles to take note of:

Independent Fashion Blog Rankings

We were asked recently if we would rank all the blogs in the Australian’s Fashion Bloggers Database, our answer was: not right now. But there are plenty of fashion blog rankings around who do the job for you, albeit on an international level – which is not necessarily a bad thing as it gives you an idea of where our Australian fashion blogs stand in the international scene.

  • Signature9 launched Style99 last year, with the aim to come up with a list of the most influential style blogs in the world. The top 99 are available for public viewing but if you want the full list of 400+ style blogs, you will have to fork out USD$99 for the list. Blogs are ranked according to a range of factors, including: Yahoo links, PageRank, Unique Domain Links, Alexa Points, Delicious Points and Google Blog Links to come up with the final number. I’m pleased to say that my own SASSYBELLA.com is the only Australian fashion blog to makes the list, scraping in at 98 for the month of January 2010.
